Conventional Diamond, Diverging Diamond, and Single Point Diamond Interchanges: A Comparative Operational Performance Evaluation in the Era of Connected Vehicles

This study evaluates the mobility impact of implementing Connected Vehicle (CV) technology at Conventional Diamond Interchange (CDI), Diverging (DDI), and Single Point (SPDI). The evaluation is based on a microsimulation environment created in VISSIM combined with ASC/3 Software-in-the-Loop signal controllers Python-programmed to Infrastructure (V2I) communication algorithms. effect varying CV-Market Penetration Rates (CV-MPRs) traffic operations taken into consideration. shows that interchange design has higher than does CV-MPR. Particularly, 100% CV-MPR led 6.4% reductions delays compared 0% CV-MPR, without considering design. Contrarily, CDI would increase as high 24.0% opposed SPDI, CVs. Similarly, DDI reduce by up 60.6%
